Two more awards for Kundmüller Brewery at one of the world’s most renowned beer competitions: Weiherer India Pale Ale and Weiherer Summer Ale received the Bronze medal at the European Beer Star 2019 on November 13 as part of the BrauBeviale in Nuremberg.
“Now we also have two specialty brews that are among the best beers in the world,” says a very proud Oswald Kundmüller, owner of Kundmüller Brewery. His brother Roland, co-owner and master brewer, adds: “Our team earned this – for their uncompromisingly high quality standards.”
Weiherer India Pale Ale and Weiherer Summer Ale are part of a range of Weiherer “Special Brews” that include award-winning specialty beers brewed in small batches. Both of this year’s winners feature a uniquely hoppy aroma.
The 16th annual European Beer Star 2019 set another record this year with 2,483 participating beers from 47 countries representing all continents. A 145-person panel of judges comprising master brewers, beer sommeliers and beer experts from 28 countries determined the winners of the gold, silver and bronze medals for 67 different styles of beer during two days of blind tasting in early October. The beers were assessed based on objective evaluation criteria similar to how consumers would rate the beer – according to its appearance, foam/head, aroma, taste and the typical characteristics of the particular type. In other words, in an easy to understand and transparent way. Stefan Stang, Managing Director of Private Brauereien Bayern, sees this as one of the reasons why the Beer Star has such an outstanding reputation worldwide.
