After the title “Craft Brewer of the Year 2020”, the Kundmüller Brewery is heading to 2021 with a new award. The three beers Weiherer Lager, Weiherer Pils and Weiherer Grünhopfen-Pils have won Gold and Silver at Meininger’s International Craft Beer Award.
Meininger’s International Craft Beer Award, one of the world's most renowned beer competitions, started the year 2021 with a new monthly format. The new schedule sets valuable standards in the industry; for the first time it makes it possible to taste many different seasonal beer styles fresh and at the right time of the year.
At the start, Pilsner beers and international lager beers were put to the test. A top-class jury of beer sommeliers, brewers and other experts involved in research and teaching tasted the beers according to the special scheme of the Meininger’s International Craft Beer Award, which is not only evaluated but also described in a decidedly sensory way.
First in 1997
The Weiherer Lager is THE classic among the Weiherer beers. It was the first beer ever brewed in the Kundmüller brewery; and also the first beer that Roland and Oswald Kundmüller had bottled in 1997. The Weiherer Pils is also one of the veterans in the Weiherer range. Brewed for the first time in 1999, it still convinces today with its Franconian Pilsner character. Both lager (platinum) and Pils (Best Pils 2018) have already received awards at Meininger’s International Craft Beer Award in recent years.
The Weiherer Grünhopfen-Pils, on the other hand, was only brewed and bottled for the first time in 2018. The seasonal special brew is always released in late autumn, shortly after the hops are harvested. The naturally cloudy Weiherer Grünhopfen-Pils impresses with its fine, grassy-green notes. In addition, a light, by no means too strongly pronounced bitterness with Franconian pilsner charm. Not just for hop lovers.

About Meininger’s International Craft Beer Award:
Meininger‘s International Craft Beer Award was launched in 2014 by Meininger Verlag. Until 2020, the competition took place once a year, up to 1,200 beer specialties from all over the world were blind tasted by almost 100 national and international beer experts.
With the realignment to a monthly, topic-specific tasting format, the competition guarantees an even more detailed and now also seasonal beer specialties tasting and assessment of the beers submitted by a recognized jury of experts.
